Husky softball team blanked by State College
From Staff reports
UNIVERSITY PARK — The Mifflin County Huskies softball team battled rival State College at Penn State’s Beard Field in University Park on Sunday.
While playing a Division I-caliber facility was certainly a thrill, the Huskies didn’t have much to cheer about as they suffered a 10-0 loss in a Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth Division matchup. The game was called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
Mifflin County managed only two hits in the contest against State College hurlers Paige Moriarta and Addison Harpster, which came off the bats of Ava Baker and Carly Dickson. Baker’s hit was a double.
The State College pitchers walked five Huskies in the contest, but Mifflin County couldn’t manufacture a run.
The Little Lions scored in every inning except the third. Jessica Hawbaker and MJ McShea each had three hits for State College, which pounded out 15 hits in the contest. Sydney Wells and Kara Rhinehart added two hits and two RBIs each. Hawbaker also drove in two runs.
Both teams committed two errors in the field.
Mifflin County pitcher Macy Pietzch started but was chased after 4 2/3 innings. She allowed seven runs – four earned – on 11 hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Piper Specht relieved her and allowed three runs on four hits, with a strikeout.
The Huskies visit Cumberland Valley on Tuesday.
