Huskies take 2 in Mill Hall

MILL HALL — Mifflin County boys tennis competed in the Central Mountain Tournament on Thursday and produced plenty of positive results. The Huskies tallied two team wins in the process.

Mifflin County 5, Juniata 0

The Huskies began the tournament by sweeping Juniata, 5-0. In a singles showcase, Aiden Newlen defeated Asher Wriglesworth, 6-2, 6-1. Logan Breneman beat Juniata’s Sylvi Gaisior, 6-3, 6-3. Mason Kaniecki beat Dayton Miller, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, Reese Hine and Husky teammate Max Persing defeated Kole Boop and Thea Beward, 6-2, 7-5. Morgan Crader and Max Yoder swept Juniata’s Isaiah May and Aiden Whitesel, 6-3, 6-4.

Mifflin County 5, Central Mountain 0

The Huskies swept the Wildcats, 5-0. Aiden Newlen beat Joey McCuskey, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3. Logan Breneman topped Tim Brinker, 7-6 (no other score reported). Husky Morgan Crader defeated Cooper Litz, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Reese Hine and Max Yoder nudged Wildcats Brayden Spedding and Ben Brinker, 6-3, 7-6. Mason Kaniecki and Max Persing swept Wildcats Mason Temple and Gavin Edmonston, 6-1, 6-1.

Altoona 4, Mifflin County 1

The Huskies fell to the Mountain Lions, 4-1. In singles action, Dylan Batrus defeated Husky Aiden Newlen, 6-1, 6-3. Owen Wasovich topped Husky Logan Breneman, 6-1, 6-4. However, Husky Mason Kaniecki defeated Jude Brunhuber, 6-7, 7-5, 10-7 (third-set tie break).

In doubles play, Aiden Aiken and Avery Lanzendorfer held off Huskies Reese Hine and Max Persing, 6-2, 7-5. Sean Ratchford and Thomas Orr beat Huskies Morgan Crader and Max Yoder, 6-3, 6-2.

Next, the Huskies host Mechanicsburg on Monday at 4 p.m. for their home finale.

SOFTBALL

Rams blank Huskies

HARRISBURG — Central Dauphin softball bulldozed Mifflin County on a sunny Thursday afternoon, 16-0.

The Rams (8-2) scored six runs in the first inning and four runs in the second.

Then, the Rams tacked on another run in the third stanza before adding five more runs in the fourth frame.

The Huskies collected two hits and one error. Meanwhile, the Rams had 15 hits with no errors.

The Rams have won eight straight games.

On Monday, the Lady Huskies (1-8) host State College. The Rams travel to play Wilson today.
