PennDOT outlines weekly maintenance work in Mifflin, Juniata counties
From staff reports
LEWISTOWN — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has released its maintenance schedule for the week of April 20, with multiple projects planned across Mifflin and Juniata counties.
In Mifflin County, crews will focus on bridge maintenance and roadway repairs throughout the week. Bridge cleaning and maintenance are scheduled Monday through Friday along Route 305 and Route 655, with flaggers providing traffic control during daylight hours. Motorists may also encounter pilot vehicles and are reminded not to pass when following a “Pilot Car Follow Me” vehicle.
PennDOT noted that Pennsylvania’s bridges average more than 50 years in age, making preventive maintenance such as deck patching and structural repairs critical to extending their lifespan.
Mechanized patching is also planned on Route 4004 (Front Mountain Road/Middle Road) throughout the week. The work targets areas with extensive potholes, cracked pavement and depressions to prevent further roadway deterioration.
In Juniata County, maintenance efforts will include crack sealing, pipe replacement and drainage work.
Crack sealing using hot pour mastic is scheduled on Route 333 between Clover Lane in Turbett Township and Snowpeak Lane in Delaware Township from Monday through Thursday, and on Route 3004 (Tuscarora Road) on Friday. The work is designed to prevent water infiltration that can lead to potholes and pavement failure.
Pipe replacement and cleaning operations are also planned early in the week, including Route 3025 (Berry Ridge Road/Old Mill Road) on Monday, Route 3023 (Pumping Station Road) on Tuesday, and Route 3020 (Barton Hollow Road) from Wednesday through Friday. These efforts help maintain proper drainage and prevent damage to road surfaces and underlying structures.
All work will occur during daylight hours with flaggers providing traffic control, and drivers may encounter delays in work zones.
PennDOT said schedules are subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists can check road conditions through the state’s 511PA system or report concerns by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD
