From staff reports
MILROY — The Mifflin County Municipal Authority has issued a mandatory water-use restriction order out of an “abundance of caution” after a tractor trailer went over an embankment and into the Laurel Creek Dam/Reservoir Friday.
Officials said the incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m.
While there is no confirmed contamination in the treated water supply at this time, the potential for contamination into the water system has prompted this emergency measure.
Until further notice, residents in the affected area are asked to conserve water by limiting non-essential water use.

When The Sentinel arrived on scene, the vehicle was fully submerged.
Emergency response teams and hazmat crews were on-site throughout the day Friday to contain the spill and prevent any spread of contaminants. A technical team is conducting intensive water quality testing and also working closely with the PA Department of Environmental Protection to monitor the situation.
No other information was available as of press time Friday. Updates will be provided as they become available.
COUNTY SETTING UP WATER DISTRIBUTION SITE
Mifflin County – in conjunction with the Mifflin County Water Authority – is currently planning to open a water distribution site on Saturday afternoon in the Lewistown area. This will provide limited quantities of drinking water for those affected by the Do Not Consume Order.
This site will be open each day and remain open as supplies last. It is expected that we will have these drinking water supplies available for the duration of the Do Not Consume Order. The operating times and location will be announced once delivery of the water is finalized and the site is prepared. The announcement will be made via web, social media and local news releases.
