Talking politics with the old gang To the editor: I was busy the other day, but I didn’t want to miss Louie’s Christmas party, so I popped into his place. It was packed, probably because Louie now serves food on the house at his party, all his favorites — clams casino, stuffed shells, chicken parm, the whole bit. A lot of the regulars were there — Jim, Tommy, Joe, Moon, Frank and some others. Everyone was in a good mood, but you could feel uncertainty in the room. With the election over and Congress split, there was pessimism that things weren’t going to turn out as ...

Questions regarding man-made climate change To the editor: I have a few questions I would like answered by those out there who are believers in man-caused climate change. 1. How does it help the planet to drill for oil in Venezuela instead of somewhere in the U.S? Let’s say you bring up a million barrels of oil in Venezuela, how do you get it to a refinery in the U.S? One would think that headlines of such an event would be something in the effect of “Brave captain and passengers save ship.” Upon the ship’s safe arrival home however, the local ...

Is Green New Deal really dead? To the editor: A reply to Mrs. Loewen’s letter to the editor on Nov. 26. What’s in a name? Do hippies still exist? I see some likely suspects every day. Is disco dead? I hear it on the radio. Is Elvis really dead? At least once a month I hear that somewhere, he just left the building. Is “The Green New Deal” dead? Has it vanished? Hardly! The Build Back Better bill ($1.6 trillion) passed last November is stacked with infrastructure money to facilitate the expansion of “The Green New Deal” concepts. Biden would not have it any other ...
