In honor of selfless acts and kindness
To the Editor:
I didn't really know Lisa Long that well on a personal level. I grew up on Lewistown's East End, and Lisa's husband, Bob, lived near me. Bob always struck me as a very kind person even when he was a child, and it's not really a big surprise that Bob and Lisa eventually found each other and created a wonderful family and life together.
My wife, Shelly, knew Lisa well from the days of Seventh Ward Elementary School. Shelly taught Lisa's two girls in school, and Lisa was a major force in Seventh Ward's Home & School Association. Lisa selflessly gave of her time so all the students and teachers could have the best experience possible at the school. Lisa had a knack for making things special for everyone.
Lisa also demonstrated her caring side toward our four-legged friends when she worked at an animal hospital. Later in life, Lisa's loving nature continued to shine when she served as activities director at Ohesson Manor. Many families were direct beneficiaries of Lisa's kindness and wonderful heart.
It's been said that if a person truly cares about you, they'll get more pleasure from the way they make you feel, rather than the way you make them feel. I believe that sums up Lisa Long perfectly. As I indicated at the outset, I did not know Lisa very well. What I do know is that she always had a smile and a kind word for me whenever our paths crossed.
It was quite comforting when Pastor Lutz reminded a packed house during Lisa's funeral service at Trinity United Methodist Church that Lisa is now rejoicing with our Lord and Savior. Lisa had an immense impact on a lot of people, and you could see it in people's eyes. Lisa no longer suffers and her many family members and friends can give thanks for all Lisa did for everyone.
I felt compelled to write this because it was obvious Lisa never did anything in order to obtain notoriety or to receive praise. She was just spreading Christ's love each and every day. That is something truly special, and it would be wonderful if more of us followed her example.
Lisa's earthly journey is finished, but her soul's journey has just begun.
