Letters to the Editor

Volunteers work to make downtown beautiful and festive To the editor: A concerted effort made possible through the cooperation of community-minded folks, local government workers, veterans groups and organizations results in the annual placement of the Christmas tree on Monument Square. The tradition of obtaining and decorating the tree enjoyed by patrons to downtown was continued through a collaborative effort to make the season special. This year, a 15-foot-tall Fraser fir tree donated by Metzler Forest Products was erected through the efforts of Crider-Mitchell Construction, ...

Letters to the Editor

America at its best today To the editor: Democrats say: • “Our borders are secure.” Over 100,000 Americans die from fentanyl each year. Last year, our Bureau of Narcotics Investigation seized more fentanyl than they had in the last four years combined. Pennsylvania State Police reported that its officers confiscated more fentanyl in July, August and September than it did during all of last year; we lose 15 Pennsylvanians each day to drug overdose. Pennsylvania has the highest violent crime rate of any state in the Northeast. Philadelphia now has the highest murder rate ...

Words of hate led to Colorado shooting

To the editor: Just stop! What is your obsession with trans people and drag shows? Why do you, weirdly, always, wrongly assume something sexual regarding these people that you do not know and will never meet? There is seriously something wrong with you if the first thought you have at the acknowledgment of the reality that these people have always and will always be a part of our world is “they’re pedophiles grooming our children.” Drag is older than that book you claim to follow — you know, the one that teaches you not to hate. … and now innocent people are dead! Yes, I ...

Can we afford this?

To the editor: Has anyone wondered before or after the election why any one person or group of individuals would spend over $100 million to elect a person to a job that pays $174,000 per year? Talk about the high price of gas and groceries — the price of government jobs is unbelievable! This is a major problem in today’s government. There is no accountability. No one in government can add or subtract. It’s no wonder we can’t have a balanced budget, no one in government knows the real value of a dollar. The people over at campaign headquarters and the television stations ...

We hear nothing of repentance

To the editor: A subject we hear either nothing or very little about in churches is repentance. So I believe it would be safe to say that most attendees of churches today know nothing of what true repentance toward God really is. When Jesus began His ministry in Israel He did not plead for them to open their hearts and ask Him in. He commanded them to repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:14-15). So then what is true repentance? It is a change of the heart and turning from sin and turning to God. It is having sorrow for sin and acknowledgement and confession of our sin. It is ...

Open eyes and mind to the truth

Editor’s note: This letter was received after the pre-election deadline for political letters. It has been edited to remove specific references to the election. To the editor: The 2020 midterm elections had the potential to resolve the present political and radical progressive insanity of the un-American progressive ideals presently being force fed to us “common sensed” Americans who are not supportive of them. The progressive, woke sector of the Democratic Party has hijacked the Democratic Party as we once knew it. Many Americans, especially residing in our larger liberal ...
