To the editor:
Thanksgiving Day is now past. The midterm election is over and the results are finally in. Regardless of whether people are happy about the results or not, one thing is for sure: I know that God is still in charge and he still knows the beginning from the end.
No matter what we mortals do or don't do, God's will will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. So with that in mind, I submit to you what has become my annual Christmas letter.
Many people out there have been flying around in all directions looking for that Christmas tree or that perfect gift for that special someone, etc. But God has already given that perfect gift to each and every one of us. That gift is the Lord Jesus Christ!
The gospel according to John begins this way: "In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God, all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made." (Christ is the Word)
So the Lord Jesus was there in the beginning and made Heaven and Earth and all that is under the authority of God the Father.
When we continue to read the Bible we find that where man was created, he was made in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26). God said, when he was speaking to Jesus, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let him have domain over the fish of the sea and every fowl of the air, and over the cattle and all over the Earth and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the Earth."
As we continue in Genesis, we find that man (Adam) and woman (Eve) are tempted by Satan and that they sin and fall from grace, and ever since sin has plagued us. Scripture also tells us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
It is also made plain that the only way we can be redeemed is that we need a savior. He gave up his glory in Heaven to come to Earth to be born by a miracle of God to a virgin (Mary), grew up and lived a perfect sinless life so that he could be that spotless sacrifice, the lamb that was required for our atonement and the forgiveness of our sins.
Then he willingly suffered a cruel death on the cross to pay the price for our sins, my sins, your sins and all of our sins, paid for that day and covered by his blood.
This is why we celebrate at this time of year. At this Christmas season, we celebrate that miracle birth when a loving Heavenly Father gave us the greatest gift that we could ever receive -- some 2,000 years ago.
All that is left for any one of us to do is to believe and admit that we are sinners and can only be reconciled to God through Christ and come to God in prayer and accept Christ as your savior.
The only question is, what are you going to do with this good news? Merry Christmas.
