SUMMIT enrolling for preschool programs

LEWISTOWN — SUMMIT Early Learning is accepting applications for its free Head Start and Pre-K Counts preschool programs for the 2026-27 school year at its Lewistown and Strodes Mills locations. The full-day programs serve children ages 3 and 4 whose families meet income eligibility guidelines. VA medical center receives funding for infrastructure improvements

ALTOONA — The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center has received additional federal funding to continue infrastructure improvements as part of the Department of Veterans Affairs' Non-Recurring Maintenance program. The funding was awarded during the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 after the Altoona-based medical center received an earlier round of funding this year. LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Industrial Development Corp. said it has not granted — or been asked to grant — easements across its property for a potential hyperscale data center in Granville Township. LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County Commissioners will hold a public hearing Aug. 6 on a proposed amendment establishing requirements for data center development under the county’s subdivision and land development ordinance. State awards Altoona Curve $1.9 million for field renovations

ALTOONA — The Altoona Curve will receive $1.9 million in state funding to renovate the playing field at Peoples Natural Gas Field, state Rep. Andrea Verobish, R-Blair, and state Sen. Judy Ward, R-30, announced. Diamond Baseball Holdings LLC, which owns the Curve, will use the funding to remove the existing playing surface, excavate beneath the field and replace its irrigation and drainage systems.
