Perry County bus company receives $81K grant

DUNCANNON -- H.E. Rohrer LLC will receive $81,250 in state funding to train new school bus drivers.
The Perry County transportation company was one of 26 recipients awarded grants through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's School Bus Safety Grant Program.
The funding may cover commercial driver's license training, trainee wages, testing and permit fees and costs associated with obtaining a school bus endorsement.
PennDOT awarded more than $1.1 million to transportation providers in 19 counties. The funding is expected to help train more than 430 drivers.
"Making sure we have enough qualified drivers to get students to and from school safely and reliably advances that investment," PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said.
The program receives $25 from each $300 fine issued through automated school bus enforcement cameras. Independent school bus contractors, school districts and municipalities may apply for the grants.
