ALTOONA -- The Altoona Curve will receive $1.9 million in state funding to renovate the playing field at Peoples Natural Gas Field, state Rep. Andrea Verobish, R-Blair, and state Sen. Judy Ward, R-30, announced.
Diamond Baseball Holdings LLC, which owns the Curve, will use the funding to remove the existing playing surface, excavate beneath the field and replace its irrigation and drainage systems.
The grant also will help pay for new sod, other materials and labor to install the playing surface.
"We're extremely fortunate to have the Altoona Curve here in Blair County," Verobish said. "This funding ensures the field is in great shape every season and represents an investment in Curve baseball for years to come."
Ward called the Curve a staple of Blair County that provides family entertainment for fans of all ages.
"This funding will provide the team and organization the opportunity to maintain operations and standards set by Major League Baseball to ensure this facility stays in top quality for both players and fans alike," Ward said.
The funding was awarded through Pennsylvania's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which supports the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic and historical improvement projects.
