LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County Industrial Development Corp. said it has not granted -- or been asked to grant -- easements across its property for a potential hyperscale data center in Granville Township.
MCIDC issued a statement after its board members and staff received questions through social media and direct contacts about the organization's position on the project, which could be developed near the Mifflin County Industrial Park.
"Of particular note is concern that our organization is allowing easements to cross any property we own," the statement reads. "These assertions are false. We have not been approached nor are we conveying any such rights."
MCIDC also clarified that it has not taken a position for or against the development.
The organization said it does not have enough specific information about the proposed land development plan or the facility's anticipated operations to take a position.
MCIDC is a nonprofit economic development organization that works to increase employment and income in Mifflin County. It provides land and buildings, as well as access to loans, grants and tax credits, to help businesses establish, expand or relocate operations in the county.

The statement comes just days after plans for a data center proposal was rejected in Granville Township due to the application being incomplete.
Data center development has become a hotly debated issue in Granville Township, where hundreds of residents have attended township meetings to oppose a potential facility and raise concerns about its effects on water supplies, noise, energy use, traffic and the environment.
The debate has also spread across social media, where Facebook groups have formed to share information and organize opposition to the development.
A proposal for the data center was recently submitted to Granville Township but was rejected as incomplete because a required certification was missing from its traffic impact study.
