Truck crash reported on Route 74

PORT ROYAL — Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown responded to a truck crash along Route 74 in Juniata County on May 11.

According to the report, the crash occurred around 8 p.m. when a 2018 Freightliner traveling north downhill on Route 74 reportedly experienced brake failure.

Police said the driver, Bashar Mal Kamawal, 21, of Katy, Texas, attempted to apply the brakes multiple times as the truck continued to gain speed. Unable to navigate a sharp right-hand turn at the bottom of the mountain, the truck left the roadway, struck a fence and entered a field, where it came to rest with minor damage.

Kamawal was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, according to police.

Vehicle strikes Family Dollar building

PORT ROYAL — Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown responded to a crash May 11 in which a vehicle struck the Family Dollar building in Port Royal.

According to the report, the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. when the driver of a 2008 Honda Civic told officers she accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park.

Police said the vehicle struck the building, causing structural damage to an exterior wall. Store management was notified.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. Police said she was cited after informing officers she did not possess a valid driver’s license.

Two cited following altercation

PORT ROYAL — Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown responded to a reported harassment incident May 17 along Route 75 South in Juniata County.

According to police, officers arrived around 3 p.m. and observed a physical altercation involving a 42-year-old Sunbury man and a 21-year-old Honey Grove man.

Both individuals were cited, police said.

No injuries reported in Route 75 crash

PORT ROYAL — No injuries were reported following a two-vehicle crash May 17 along Route 75 South in Turbett Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown, the crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. when a 2016 Ford Fusion was stopped while attempting to make a left turn onto Route 333.

Police said the driver of a 2013 Cadillac SRX told officers he did not realize the Fusion was stopped and struck the vehicle from behind.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene. The Cadillac driver was cited, according to police.
