Beaver Springs’ pitchers help secure victory

BEAVER SPRINGS–Anyone who follows Mifflin County Babe Ruth baseball knows how deep the Beaver Springs pitching staff is.

On Thursday night, the Burnham team, the last undefeated team in the league, also found out. Springs defeated Burnham, 6-2, to go into first place in the league. Beaver Springs is now 5-1, Lewistown 4-1 and Burnham fell to third place with a 3-1 record.

River Knepp and Colton Aumiller combined for a two-hitter. Knepp got the win as he went five and two-thirds innings. He struck out 10, walked four and gave up only two hits. Aumiller finished the game and got the save. He struck out three, gave up no hits and walked one.

Springs only had four hits as Max Trawitz, Knepp and Haven Bridge each had singles. Aumiller had an RBI double. Bridge drove in three runs including a two-run single in the fifth.

Beaver Springs led 3-1 after three innings, but had a big inning in the fifth by scoring three runs and taking control of the game.

Burnham’s two hits came from Noah Wolfkill, a run-scoring triple in the third inning and also a single from Noah Wray.

BELLEVILLE 7, MILROY 2

BELLEVILLE–Belleville got a big-pitching effort from Landon Rhodes as he went five innings helping Belleville to a 7-2 win over Milroy.

Rhodes, who got the win, struck out six, walked three and gave up four hits. Reagan Varner closed out the win as he pitched the last two innings, striking out two, walking two and gave up no hits.

Belleville had nine hits with Isaiah Sharp leading the way with three including a double. Sharp drove in Belleville’s first five runs. Levi Anderson was Belleville’s only other multiple hitter with two.

Milroy got four singles from Kooper Walters, Chase Krepps, Cohen Ritchey and Trey Kline.

MCVEYTOWN 20, STRODES MILLS 3

LEWISTOWN–McVeytown’s Crosby Sunderland and Grant Peachey combined for a no-hitter as McVeytown won its first game of the year with a 20-3 win over Strodes Mills. The game was over in five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Sunderland went three and two-thirds innings. He struck out two, walked three and gave up two runs. Peachey finished the game with two strikeouts and two walks.

McVeytown had nine hits with two players getting three apiece, Bryson Watton and Treyvon Shaffer. Easton Stonerook, Landon Pecht and Dom Attamuro each had singles.

McVeytown led 14-0 after two innings. Strodes Mills had five wild pitches that scored runs, two errors, 11 walks and two hit by pitches in the first two innings.

Strodes Mills scored three times in the fourth as Karson Goss, Evan Hook and Cayden Litzinger crossed home plate.
