Surface treatment work planned on Juniata Co. roads
MIFFLINTOWN — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will continue surface treatment operations, commonly known as “oil and chip,” on several roads in Juniata County this week.
PennDOT said the maintenance work is designed to seal roadway surfaces, improve traction and extend pavement life between resurfacing projects.
No work is scheduled Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Work is expected to continue throughout the remainder of the week on several township roads, including Cuba Mills Road, Free Spring Church Road and Troyer Road in Fayette Township; Cedar Springs Road in Walker and Delaware townships; Miller Hill Road and Doe Run Road in Walker Township; and Industrial Park Road.
PennDOT said surface treatment work generally involves sweeping the roadway, applying emulsion oil and stone, and rolling the material into place before crews return to remove loose stone.
Officials noted drivers should reduce speeds on recently treated roadways during the two-day curing period or consider alternate routes.
