Man convicted in assault trial
MIDDLEBURG — Chad W. Dickinson has been convicted for sexually assaulting a young girl while living in Mount Pleasant Mills during 2019 and 2020, according to a press release from Snyder County District Attorney Mike Piecuch.
Dickinson was tried before a Snyder County jury, which returned a verdict of guilty on all counts, including first-degree felonies. Sentencing was deferred pending an assessment by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Board, the release states. Dickinson was remanded into custody when President Judge Michael Sholley revoked his bail, which was then reset at $100,000 straight cash.
Dickinson, who represented himself at trial, was able to directly cross-examine the victim.
“The courage of the victim is beyond inspiring,” Piecuch said. “She was victimized in the worst way by a trusted adult. And yet she was able to face him down in court and speak the unspeakable things he did to her.”
The sexual assaults began when the girl was just 13 years old and continued for almost two years, Piecuch said. The crimes came to light when the girl’s mother discovered lingerie that Dickinson had purchased for the girl and made her wear during the assaults, the release states, adding that Dickinson had attempted to keep his crimes a secret by directing the girl not to tell her mother and to keep the lingerie hidden.

Record revenue for Pa. casinos
HARRISBURG (AP) — Casinos and other operators in Pennsylvania set a new annual record for gambling revenue, state regulators said Tuesday, rising above $5 billion for the first time amid surging betting on online casino games and a post-pandemic return to the casinos’ slot machines and table games.
That was about 30% higher than the $3.9 billion recorded in the previous fiscal year, and slightly above the previous calendar year high of $4.7 billion reported in January.
The rebound continues after pandemic-related shutdowns sapped casino revenue in 2020.
Pennsylvania legalized both sports betting and online gambling as part of an aggressive gambling expansion in 2017.
Pennsylvania has been neck-and-neck with New Jersey for No. 2 in commercial casino revenue behind Nevada, according to figures compiled by the American Gaming Association. Pennsylvania is No. 1 in tax revenue from gambling, according to the association’s figures.
