Carlisle sweeps Huskies in Mid-Penn showdown

LEWISTOWN — In their last home meet of the year, Mifflin County’s track and field team was back in action Tuesday as they welcomed in Mid-Penn foe Carlisle.
With the weather holding tight in the low 80s with a gusty wind blowing, the scene was set for numerous personal records on both the boys and girls side.
The night was a dedicated pink out in honor of Addie Ross. In her honor former coaches, teammates, friends and family gathered to take a memorial walk around the Huskies new track and field complex.
“Yes, definitely. We, in the sprints in, jumps and hurdles, we really, like, days like today, where it’s nice and warm,” said Mifflin County coach Tamara Sechler. “And we did have quite a few PRs and personal baths today. ”
“Carlisle brought a very competitive team as well, so they still were able to take some of those first places from us, but we were still pretty pleased with how our kids did in progressing in their performance.”
In Tuesday’s competition, the Thundering Herd girls defeated the Lady Huskies 96-53 while the boys topped Mifflin County 90-59.
On the girls side, Kendall Cavanaugh and Taylor Kenepp led the Huskies girls team by taking two first places in their events. Cavanaugh was first in Javelin and Shot Put while Taylor earned her firsts in the 100 and 200. In the javelin, Cavanaugh javelin throw would go 95’3″. Her shotput winning throw on the day was 28’5 3/4″.
For Kenepp it would be a record-breaking night in the 100.
Cavanaugh also made her mark in the discus. She launched a second-place throw of 88’6″.
Reagan Sheetz finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and 3rd in the 300-meters with times of 17.65 and 52.07, respectively.
Teammate Madison Baumgardner finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a finishing time of 19.96.
In the 400-meter run Jovie Kauffman finished second with a 1:03.65 while third went to teammate Alleigh Caruso (1:06.71).
In the 800 Liberty Cook placed a strong third as she notched a 2:35.31.
In the 200, Jovie Kauffman finished third with a time of 28.95.
In the grueling 3200-meter run 3rd – Amilia Coffey finished third with a time of 13:18.57.

In the long jump, Annie Hartzler finished second( 16′ 4″) and Maddy Clinard (15′ 10.5″) finished third.
Mifflin County had two of three top performances in the Triple Jump: Maddy Clinard (33’11.5″) finished second and Hartzler (32′ 4″) placed third.
Hartzler also placed in the high jump as she notched a second-place finish of 4′ 8″.
Rounding out the girls place winners was Morgan Sheetz in the pole vault where she finished second with a launch of 6′ 6″.
Boys Results
Carlisle 90, Mifflin County 59
For the boys team, the Huskies shined against a team that is known for its strong distance program. The 4×800 relay team of Reese Cubbison, Connor Lynch, Wyatt Kauffman and Carter Smith started the meet with a winning school record time of 7:52.89.
Later, Wyatt Kauffman and Aidan Scavitti took first and second in the 1600 which was followed by Reese Cubbison and Hoyt Rodenbaugh doing the same in the 800. Although Carlisle took the win in the 3200, Zaiden Dashem and Hart Oden scooped up the remaining points by placing second and third. Two more Huskies were able to capture a first place for the team, Trevan Diven in the 400 and Nevin Farley in long jump.

There was no doubt in the 4×800 relay as the Huskies took first place. The team consisted of Reese Cubbison, Connor Lynch, Wyatt Kauffman and Carter Smith as they finished with a 7:52.89.
Landon Yetter brought home a second-place nod in the 110-Meyer hurdles. He finished with a 19.14. Teammate Kaleb Grant finished in third with a 19.15.
In the 100, Nevin Farley ran tough finishing with a second-place finish of 11.70 while teammate Cayden Breon finished third with a time of 12.14.
The Huskies finished 1-2 in 1600. Wyatt Kauffman finished in the top spot with a time of 4:38.04 while Aiden Scavitti finished a close second with a mark of 4:38.91.
Trevan Diven took top honors in the 400 with a time of 51.58. Placing third was teammate Winston Yetter posting a 54.59.
In the 300 hurdles Landon Yetter placed second with a time of 47.02.
Not shy to first place finishes Reese Cubbison took top honors in the 800 posting a top time of 2:00.95 while teammate Hoyt Rodenbaugh placed a close second as he finished at (2:01.17.
In the 200: Nevin Farley placed third with a mark of 24.08.
Mifflin County took second and third in the 3200. Placing second was Zaiden Dashem finishing with a time of 10:42.58 while in third was Hart Oden as he notched a 10:50.81.
Shot Put: 2nd – Dekker took second in both the shot put and the Discus., Pietzsch posted a 42′ 11.75″ while teammate Trayven Shaffer posted third with a 38’9″.
In the discus, Dekker Pietzsch topped out at second place with a throw of 106′ 7″ while Shaffer again secured the third place spot with an 104′ 4″.
Rounding out the night in the Javelin. Leading the way for Mifflin County in the javelin was a second-place throw of 159′ 8″ by Reece Bell.
Mifflin County will be back in action at Cumberland Valley next Tuesday.

BASEBALL
Huskies nudge Eagles
MECHANICSBURG — Mifflin County scored four times in the fifth frame to dodge Cumberland Valley in Tuesday baseball action, 5-4.
For the Huskies, Karl Shirey and Jayden Smith each had two RBIs. Shirey belted a home run.
Chase Leister added two hits and Joel Beamer had one RBI.
Thad Gerwick tossed one and one-third innings to earn the win in relief.
