The Husky Sports Recognition Night honors students of all grades, however it was an extra special night for the receiving seniors, as it concludes their high school sports careers. They have had many hardships, learned many lessons, made many mistakes, and achieved multiple goals throughout their careers.

“I would describe my career as exhilarating and one of the best experiences of my life,” senior Leah Alexander explained. “I have learned so much, but most importantly I’ve learned that teamwork will get you a long way and the bond with your team and the people that you play with will get you very far and they will lift you up when you need them to.”

Senior Cyrell Green explained his career as challenging.

“I would say I was an underdog in my high school career to be honest. I really didn’t get all the opportunities I wanted, but my senior year I got a chance to show what I could do and God blessed me, so it was just a blessing in general,” Green noted.

The seniors are off to new adventures as they graduate and have some goals and expectations for their futures.

Senior Mara Gallo, a Juniata College commit explained, “I hope to be the freshman of the year at Juniata which is an award they give to their hardest working freshman. I also hope to score 200 goals compared to my current 174.”

Green shared his goals as well, saying, “Hopefully I can compete at the college level, get a couple starts, hopefully get first team All-American in college and of course get my degree, and then become an officer in the military.”

When dedicating your high school years to a sports team, it is common to receive useful advice from friends, family, coaches and peers.

Leah Alexander stated the best advice she received was from her father, who told her “On time is late and early is on time.”

Green explained the best advice he received was from a friend’s grandfather who said, “Enjoy your youth. He’s older and he told me to enjoy my youth and ever since then I really have. He made me realize that I should do all that I can now because everybody grows old at some point.”

Gallo shared her best piece of advice as well, which was given to her by her former head coach.

“Hard work never goes unnoticed and you are always going to be one step ahead if you put in the work on your own time.”

The sports students play in high school often have lifelong lessons attached to them. Gallo shared the biggest lesson she has learned.

“I’ve learned that hard work beats talent when talent isn’t working and if you are putting in the hard work then it’s not going to go unnoticed. I’ve also learned not to get mad at my teammates because they are here to support you and lift you up rather than tear you down,” Gallo added.

Also at the ceremony were the “Unified Sports Awards” recognizing members from each sports team.
