Seven Stars Road bridge to close for replacement

From staff reports

RICHFIELD — A bridge replacement project on Seven Stars Road in Juniata County is scheduled to begin Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The project involves replacement of the bridge carrying Route 2019 (Seven Stars Road) over Mahantango Creek in Monroe Township, about 1.5 miles southeast of Richfield.

PennDOT said the existing bridge, which was built in 1940, is deteriorating. The replacement project is expected to improve ride quality and the bridge’s overall condition rating while eliminating the current 22-ton weight restriction for single vehicles and 32-ton restriction for combination vehicles.

Beginning Tuesday, the bridge will be closed and a detour will remain in place throughout construction. Traffic will be directed along routes 2014 (Lauver Valley Road), 2017 (Evandale Hill Road), Route 35 and Route 3016 (Seven Stars Road).

Work included in the project consists of removal of the existing bridge, construction of the replacement structure, approach paving, guide rail upgrades, line painting and other related work.

Lobar Site Development Corporation is the contractor for the $1.7 million project.

PennDOT expects the project to be completed in early November, though work schedules may change because of weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Starting at $2.99/week.
