LEWISTOWN — GQ (Gentlemen’s Quartet) has earned a national reputation for turning concerts into full-scale musical adventures. This powerhouse ensemble doesn’t simply perform great music — they transform it, blending classical precision, pop-rock flair and a sense of humor that keeps audiences leaning in, laughing and listening in brand-new ways.

Their shows are known for drawing big crowds and even bigger reactions, thanks to arrangements that are as clever as they are breathtaking.

Across the country, GQ concerts have become must-see events. Part of the magic is the group’s ability to take music audiences already love — Beethoven, Chopin, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Billy Joel, John Legend — and fuse those worlds together with a level of creativity that feels both daring and completely natural. Every performance is a surprise, every mashup a revelation and every musician onstage a virtuoso in his own right.

Presented by the Mifflin-Juniata Concert Association and Live On Stage, Inc., GQ comes to Mifflin County High School, located at 501 Sixth St., Lewistown, on Monday, May 4, at 7:30 p.m. It’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated concerts of the season, and for good reason: this group brings a level of artistry and showmanship rarely seen on a school auditorium stage.

Produced and performed by the creators of O Sole Trio and Empire Trio, GQ is built on a simple but electrifying idea: take some of the most famous music ever written, fuse genres that were never meant to meet and perform it all with world-class virtuosity and a wink of humor. The result is a show that feels both timeless and brand new, familiar yet full of surprises. And with more than 10,000 collective performances among them, these musicians know how to command a stage.

The ensemble features four acclaimed instrumentalists whose résumés span Broadway, major symphony orchestras, international festivals and collaborations with some of the biggest names in music.

Music director David Shenton is a rare double threat on piano and violin. The English-born composer and arranger has worked with Vanessa Williams, Tony Bennett, Renée Fleming, Michael Feinstein and Alan Menken, and has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Jazz at Lincoln Center. His inventive arrangements are the backbone of GQ’s signature sound.

On cello and mandocello, Peter Sachon brings a career that bridges classical, jazz, rock, and more than a decade of Broadway productions including “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Legally Blonde,” “Pippin,” and “My Fair Lady.” He has toured internationally with Pink Martini and performed with Cirque du Soleil.

Matt Scharfglass, on guitar and bass, is an award-winning instrumentalist, arranger and former “Guitar World” music editor. His work spans Broadway pits, recording studios and even Madison Square Garden, where he performs as part of the New York Rangers house band.

Rounding out the core quartet is Ben Saporito, a dynamic percussionist whose credits include The New York Pops, The American Composers Orchestra and numerous regional theater productions. He also serves as a substitute drummer for Disney’s Broadway hit “Aladdin.”

Adding vocal firepower is guest artist Erin Shields, whose versatile voice has taken her from opera companies to music festivals to singing the National Anthem for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls at age 17.

What truly sets GQ apart is their approach to arranging. They don’t just reinterpret music — they reimagine it. Their rendition of John Legend’s “All of Me,” for example, weaves together Chopin’s “Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2,” Elgar’s “Cello Concerto,” Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” and Michael Nyman’s “The Piano.” Each instrument carries a different musical thread, allowing listeners to enjoy the familiar melody on the surface or dive deeper into the intricate layers beneath.

Their program spans centuries and styles, from Beethoven and Tchaikovsky to Journey, Led Zeppelin, Survivor, Gershwin and Freddie Mercury. Expect mashups, classical showpieces, pop anthems and clever musical surprises — all delivered with warmth, humor and jaw-dropping skill.

With their blend of sophistication, showmanship, and sheer musical imagination, GQ promises a night that Mifflin County audiences won’t soon forget.

Single tickets for this performance will be available at the door on the night of the performance for $30.
