MIFFLINTOWN — The Juniata baseball team used four first-inning runs and good pitching from Daylyn Kennedy to hold off Line Mountain to win 7-5 Monday.
Kennedy pitched six strong innings before being replaced by Jack Greenholt in the seventh. Greenholt came in while the game was 7-5, and he allowed a leadoff double and later a walk to put two on base with one out.
He would get the next batter to ground into a fielder’s choice then strike out the final batter to secure the win. “Daylyn was running out of pitches and I wanted to have somebody fresh on the mound, a different look,” Juniata coach Adam Geedey said. “Jack’s been pitching fantastic for us all year so I had all the confidence in the world that he was going to come through for us.”
Juniata had a great start off of Eagle starter Trey Geyer. They got four hits off of Geyer which scored four runs in the first inning. But when he was replaced by Liam Troutman things came much more difficult for the Indians.
“We came out, we were on fire to start the game,” Geedey said. “They switched pitchers, and he kinda had our number for a few innings there and we couldn’t really get the bats going, you know, that’s baseball.”
Kennedy also stalemated the Line Mountain offense after the Eagles scored three runs to keep the lead at 5-3. Juniata added some insurance when Cam Bargo hit a two-RBI triple in the fifth to go ahead 7-3, Bargo finished 2-for-3.
“That was huge,” Geedey said. “They gained two back but we held, we bent but we didn’t break.”
Juniata improved their record to 4-8 and will play at Halifax at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
