Fairways and theater headline weekend activities

The opening weekend for the Stone Arch Players’ production draws a packed house.

Whether it’s a crooked shot on the fairways or crooked characters on the stage, there are plenty of entertaining activities this weekend.

Try teeing off at the Fourth Golf United Classic, sponsored by the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, on Friday at the Lewistown Country Club, 306 Country Club Road, Lewistown.

Looking for more, the curtain set to go up on its final production of the 2024-25 season, “Every Little Crook and Nanny,” the Stone Arch Players look to go out with a bang — or at least some crooks, nannies and lots of laughter. “Every Little Crook and Nanny,” a comedy by Pat Cook, debuts at Theatre in the Park at Kishacoquillas Park in Lewistown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

For the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, the cost for team of four is $420. The tournament is a scramble format and the fee includes green fees, cart, lunch, beverages, door prizes, giveaways and awards. Registration is at 10:15 a.m., with a light lunch at 10:45 a.m. and the shotgun start at noon.

Course games include Longest Drive, Straightest Drive, Hole in One and many more. Register at www.mjunitedway.org.

“Every Little Crook and Nanny” is a cute show that reminded me of a show we did about a decade ago called ‘Too Soon for Daisies,’ a favorite with audiences at the time,” Stone Arch Players director Colette Hartzler reminisced.

“As in ‘Daisies,’ ‘Every Little Crook and Nanny’ involves three older women — retired nannies although one is still working — who may have more happening with them than you may realize at first glance,” Hartzler added.
