Man charged with aggravated assault and strangulation

MIFFLINTOWN — A Mifflin County man has been charged with aggravated assault and strangulation after an alleged altercation Thursday evening at a Fermanagh Township residence.

Pennsylvania State Police said 38-year-old Dustin Earl Jabs, of Juniata Terrace, had been arguing with the accuser before Jabs slapped the accuser across the face, grabbed the accuser’s neck and raised the accuser into the air. Jabs then put the accuser onto the floor and put a piece of fabric in their mouth, preventing the accuser from breathing, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the accuser told police they had locked a bedroom door in an attempt to keep Jabs at bay, but Jabs kicked the door in before picking up the accuser and slamming them to the floor in the doorway of the bedroom.

The accuser said they hit their head on the floor and saw a pool of blood where they had been. The accuser then said they felt the back of their head was wet and saw blood on the hand they had used to check the back of their head, according to court documents.

According to the affidavit, the accuser told police they drove to the urgent care center in Burnham and received six staples to close the wound. Police said they observed and photographed the accuser’s injuries.

Jabs is charged with aggravated assault, strangulation, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

He is currently lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post the $50,000 bail set.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Kent A. Smith.

Starting at $3.75/week.
