Commonwealth Court correct to put brakes on RGGI membership

Gas prices have risen, inflation has devalued our spending power and we’re seemingly — finally — exiting a pandemic that wrecked our economy. So what does Gov. Tom Wolf want to do? Recklessly destroy the state’s energy industry and drive up more of our costs by forcing Pennsylvania into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a multi-state compact that would require energy suppliers to pay for carbon emissions credits in order to keep producing energy. This, from the same guy whose economic master plan for the state during the pandemic was worse than most, and did little ...

GOP is good at one thing – legislative obstruction To the editor: This letter is in support of Joan Loewen’s well written and well researched letter to the editor of March 28, 2022 about the difference between “talking points” and “facts.” Here are “facts” about the creation and implementation of Social Security and Medicare and the history of Republicans stonewalling” the two most successful government programs in the history of the United States. I am also including other “stonewalling” activities of Republicans as well! 1935: Republicans in Congress ...

Another fairy tale from a right-wing writer To the editor: On April 5, I opened the paper to see yet another fairy tale from the right this time, sorry I mean letter (as per usual) blaming this administration for everything from the poor getting poorer to the high cost of oil. Wow I am surprised that I did not fall back to sleep from this fairy tale. First of all, let’s look at his claim about the inequality between the rich and poor. In the former guy’s term he “reformed” the taxes, which gave the rich a nice big tax break. The money from this tax break was used to buy ...

Let us not ruin nature in the name of ‘progress’ To the editor: I went to the doctor on Sandy Lane today. I had to stop in my tracks when I saw a glimpse of the future. There on the ridge in front of me, behind the Mifflin County High School was the ugliest sight in our beautiful area. It was a very large solar array. A mass of black and metallic geometric grids in no particular design. It is, in short, an eyesore compared to the tree-lined ridge that had been there. Is this our future? Has the metamorphosis to mass green energy started in Mifflin County? I certainly hope not. ...

If not to stop Congress, why did Trump hold rally? To the editor: If you conservatives do not believe that Donald Trump’s intent was to disrupt the proceeding taking place in the Capitol, you can’t hear or see. Or maybe both. Whey did he plan a rally withing walking distance of the Capitol on the very day Congress was certifying Joe Biden as president? If his plan wasn’t to disrupt the proceedings, please tell me the pruspose of the rally. He told his followers we are going to the Capitol. He did not go. Before he sent them off, he gave them a “pep” talk. If treminded ...
