Fourteenth annual Walk for Warmth was success To the Editor: The 14th annual Walk for Warmth was held on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at Kish Park in Lewistown. The event is held each year in February, when temperatures are low, so that walkers could imagine what families who are struggling might endure. This year’s walkers had mild temperatures as they came out to support this worthy cause. This event is co-hosted by United Way of Mifflin-Juniata and the Mifflin-Juniata Human Services Department. Immigration issue must be resolved To the Editor: The subject of an open border and illegal immigrants is a concern to many Americans. Since the primary election season began in Iowa and New Hampshire, it was the most important topic among voters. Current estimates are over 11 million illegal immigrants. The estimated number of them working is over 8 million. Donald Trump has stated at rallies he will deport all illegals. I wonder at the wisdom of this idea. Together we can bless those who hunger To the Editor: Our Annual Meat Canning Project is complete. We canned 36,000 pounds of chicken which produced 22,827 cans of product. The number puts our total to 815,178 cans of meat since our beginning in 1975. May God bless and keep all who have supported, and all who have received these cans. In March we will be distributing 100 cases of chicken to our local organizations. Here is some good news, we get to do this year over again next year. Killing is action of primitive minds To the Editor: In response to Mr. Sellers letter to the editor published on Feb. 12, I have to say, killing is wrong no matter who is doing it. Any true Christian/enlightened human would know this. Dropping bombs is the reaction of a primitive mind. Shooting people to resolve differences is barbaric. The ‘G.I. Bill’ of World War II To the Editor: In 1944, the “G.I. Bill” established veterans hospitals, furnished low-interest mortgages for veterans and provided funds for veterans attending colleges or trade schools to help pay for tuition and living expenses.
