Editor's Note: The letter below is in response to a candidacy announcement by Beth Farnham. Ms. Farnham is running to be the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Rep.-13th District. The announcement ran in the Tuesday, Jan. 16 edition of The Sentinel.
What 'constitutional values' is Beth Farnham addressing?
I wish instead of her offering protection for democracy she, and others of her ilk, would be more inclined to protect our Republic. A Republic founded upon Christian values. Jefferson referred to democracy as comparable to mob rule whereas the Republic was to be guided by established law. Maybe all too many missed that lesson in civics.
Mrs. Farnham is supportive of abortion, the murder of innocents in the womb, which now allows in some quarters, the living child to die once born. And as usual with those advocating for abortion, she claims to deny that 'right' would have "a mother die pregnant and her living, breathing children motherless, than to have a life-saving abortion". Life saving for the woman has almost never been a restriction for abortion. I have yet to read how many children in the womb were saved. Abortion is rarely live (sic) saving, it is a sentence of death for the only one without a voice.
She makes the claim that Trump would be a dictator if elected. She ignores the already seated dictator in the Oval Office. I would hope a constitutionalist is in the White House, not a weakling whose apparent goal is to destroy the concepts that made this country great and substitute them with the socialist mantra of despotic Marxists.
She mentions "a fundamental right" but that confuses me for where in our constitution does it consider "abortion, birth control, gender affirming care" as a right? Where in our constitution did the framers even mention abortion? Where is the right for a biological male to invade the privacy of women and young girls? Gender is brain perception, transgenderism is a social construct, not a medical condition and should never be confused with genital sex which should be the guideline, not the delusional mindset of a transvestite.
And of course she would make the claim that Trump was instigating a resurrection (sic). He asked for a peaceful march in protest to what he understood to be an illegal process of votes in many states, especially Pennsylvania. That is a right protected by the constitution of this nation. On the other side of the coin never is it mentioned by the leftists those BLM and Antifa terrorists who actually were destroying our neighborhoods and actually supported a true insurrection.
Then she would attack the people's right to bear arms. On that issue I would suggest she read the Bill of Rights and its stated right to bear arms, a right not to be infringed upon.
I firmly believe all voters should be vetted and show legal ID to vote. From what I have read most democrats oppose that avenue. Why?
I think she is further confused on the manner of death of children. Guns are not the leading cause of death of children, it is illegal drugs. And she, in mimicry of those opposed to the right of protection, would deny the law-abiding citizen their rights as if they are no different than a thug on the street committing a crime.
She would mention her grandfather's service to this nation as if it reflects upon her. Somehow her values seem contrary to many of those who served so as to protect our country and its values. I might mention my uncles and cousins also served in WW2 in combat roles in Europe and on the carrier Hornet in the Pacific. Add to that my husband's service in Korea (four bronze stars and the purple heart) and my own active duty service overseas.
We served to protect the values of this country, this Republic, not to destroy them under a socialist mantra or under the banner of a faux democracy.
