‘Democrats are stuck in a real hole’ To the Editor: “Hey, how you been?” said Louie, when I walked in the door. “Haven’t seen you in a while.” “Well, you know, my busy social schedule,” I laughed. “Yeah, right,” he said. “How’s Loretta?” I asked. “She’s good, thanks. Has a little trouble getting around, y’ know — aches and pains. But she’s good.” There were a lot of guys at Louie’s. Ed, whom I hadn’t seen in a long time, asked me, “What’ve you been doing?” “Not much — you know, the usual,” I answered. “I’m ...

Trump disliked before presidency To the Editor: This letter is in response to John Brittain’s letter in the Sentinel on June 25. In that letter, he asks, “Who are the Trump haters and how did they get that way?” He then goes on to offer his thoughts about how they got that way. While I can’t speak to all Trump haters, I can assure you that none of the reasons provided are the reason why I dislike Mr. Trump. When I was younger I used to listen to the Howard Stern radio show. Enjoy the weather, don’t predict apocalypse To the Editor: Can you believe this heat? Of course, you can. You have lived through summer before. Some are hotter than others and some are wetter than others. Why is the weather on the National News every day declaring gloom and doom? Locally Channel 27 from Harrisburg has compared this heat wave to record heat waves. Five times in the past we have had heat waves lasting 11 days in a row. Five times! Announcing this every day is not only redundant but a waste of time. It is not news! It’s summer! Let me know when the record is ...

(Editor’s Note: Below is a letter to the editor that will be split into 2 parts due to the length. The second part will be printed in the Monday, July 1 edition.) Paying tribute to local athlete Fred Stoicheff To the Editor: I would like to pay tribute to a local athlete who died in the past year whose high school achievements were tantamount to winning four state wrestling championships without being taken down, scoring 2,500 career points with a 35 ppg (points per game) average in basketball and having a career batting average of .700 in baseball/softball. That person is my ...

Darkest days afoot in today’s America To the Editor: A partial list - Our abortion rate in 2023 exceeded 1 million for the first time since 2012, a substantial rise even with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. All while one to two million waiting prospective parents seek infant adoption. We withheld military support to our ally Israel, called for the removal of its leader in the middle of a war, and tried to dictate how the war was run. The U. N. put Israel on a blacklist of countries and organizations that harm children in conflict zones. Shortfalls in capacity and ...
