Lowering sales tax boosts state economy To the Editor: Another Good Reason. In addition to aiding the poor and low-income families with their finances and also helping improve the economic climate in Pennsylvania, another good reason for eliminating the state’s sales tax is that it would also encourage out-of-state shoppers to cross the border to patronize Pennsylvania merchants. Do not be silent about misinformation (Editor’s note: This letter is in response to Juanita Byler’s letter in the August 15 edition of the Sentinel.) To the Editor: Ninety million Christians with 15 million not voting is interesting. Have you considered that our country of 345 million plus leaves many who are not Christian? Do not discount the cultures, needs, and beliefs of others. Equating morality with only being Christian is offensive. All politicians lie with a smile To the Editor: I can’t take it anymore! The amount and quality of Democratic lies since Biden bowed out is setting new records. Sen. Who in their right mind could vote for two complete failures with no substantive ...

Front page or comic page? To the Editor: I laughed out loud. Then I double-checked to make sure I hadn’t mistakenly turned to the Sentinel’s comic page. Nope. I read with amusement the Sentinel’s front-page AP opinion/comic story on Wednesday, August 7, “Five Things to Know about Democratic VP Pick Tim Walz.” The Sentinel’s recent front-page story about a groundhog stuck in a claw box was funny, but the front-page Walz editorial was downright hilarious. Since the undemocratic anointing of a presidential nominee by a party that disingenuously screams about threats to ...

Trump is the opposite of Christian To the Editor: Recently a presidential candidate was encouraging Christians to vote, insinuating they would vote for him. But would Christians vote for someone who never goes to church, never reads the Bible or has no idea what Jesus’ message to the world is? Would Christians vote for someone who regularly calls people by juvenile names? Not once have I seen this person act in a way that would make me think he was a Christian. In my opinion, it is evident that Donald Trump is the exact opposite of what Jesus calls us to be. Timothy R. ...
