We have known Doug for more than 30 years. He and his wife and his two daughters were my dental patients until I retired from dentistry seven years ago. Association thanks helpers in Meat Canning project To the Editor: Our annual Meat Canning Project is complete. We canned 40,000 pounds of meat, 20,000 of chicken, and 20,000 of pork which produced 26,241 cans of product. This number puts our total to 841,419 cans of meat canned since our beginning in 1975. May God bless and keep all who have supported, and all who will receive these cans. In March, we will be distributing 107 cases of meat to our local organizations. Mifflin-Juniata United Way hosted Walk for Warmth To the Editor: The 15th annual Walk for Warmth was held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at Kish Park in Lewistown and in Walker Township Park in Juniata County. This event is held each year in February, when temperatures are low, so that walkers could imagine what families who are struggling might endure. As is often the case, walkers bore the low temperatures as they came out to support this worthy cause. Community colleges should be tuition-free To the Editor: Although my family of eight was poor, I believe that I was lucky to live in Bloomsburg, a college town, because it enabled me to live at home, work a full-time job and several part-time jobs to pay for my college expenses, and graduate debt-free with a bachelor’s degree in education. This is why I believe that Pennsylvania needs more community colleges to serve those areas where there are potential college students without the financial ability to attend a distant college or university.
