Donald G. "Duck" Gilliland, 83, of Mifflintown, passed away at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born in Reeds Gap, Juniata County, PA on June 21, 1940, and was the son of the late Paul Maxwell and Beulah (Leonard) Gilliland.
On May 9, 1971 he married his surviving wife Betty Jean (Barton) Gilliland. He is also survived by a sister Judy Gilliland Fike, a sister-in-law Verna Gilliland, brothers- in-law Bobby Barton and wife, Linda and Barry Barton. Ex sister-in-law Kathy Barton, nieces Tammy Rex, Lisa Gilliland Harling, Lezlee Mummah, Lindsay Barton, Stephanie Maldonado and nephews Troy Fike, Lance Gilliland, Dennis Nace, Jr. and his beloved cat of 17 years, Pumpkin. He was preceded in death by a brother, William A. "Bill" Gilliland.
Duck was a proud member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a Ford Technician at Leister Ford, later becoming Mertz Ford McAlisterville, until his retirement.
Donald was a member and trustee of the Mexico United Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Sandspring Gun Club. Duck was known for keeping his yard and cars meticulous. He was a life long avid sprint car fan. He enjoyed family gatherings and going to Indy with his brother, Bill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown. Interment will follow at Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown where full military burial honors will be accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Gilliland's memory may be made to Mexico United Presbyterian Church, William Penn Hwy., P.O. Box 36, Mexico, PA 17056.
