LEWISTOWN -- On a day meant to honor seniors, two of them wasted no time proving why they've been the backbone of Mifflin County's field hockey program.
Jayda Kanagy and Brynn Rowe set the tone Saturday at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium, powering the Huskies to a commanding 5-0 victory over Susquehanna Township.
After a quiet first quarter, Kanagy broke the scoreless stretch early in the second, giving the Huskies (4-5) the jump they needed. Rowe followed with back-to-back goals, pushing Mifflin County firmly in control while the Indians struggled to generate any threat in the circle.
"I think they did absolutely amazing," Mifflin County head coach Coletta Beeler said. "We kind of started off slow in the first quarter, and kind of lit a fire under their butt in between first and second quarter today. But once they went out for the second quarter, they completely turned around and they played our game, which was what we were missing that first quarter."
From there, the Huskies kept rolling. Bree Fultz and Quinlan Williams added goals to close out the scoring, while Kanagy collected two assists. Fultz and Aubree Dobson also chipped in assists as Mifflin County controlled possession and pace throughout the afternoon.
"I was really glad to see that they turned the game around and played our game of hockey," Beeler added.
Senior goalkeeper Mya Felmlee didn't need to make a save, recording her first shutout behind a defense that never allowed Susquehanna Township a clean look. The Huskies finished with a 19-0 advantage in shots and earned 20 penalty corners, spending most of the game in the attacking end.
Mifflin County travels to Camp Hill today.

BOYS SOCCER
Tigers fall to Greenwood
MILLERSTOWN -- Visiting East Juniata saw undefeated Greenwood notch five goals in each half en route to a 10-0 Tri-Valley League win. Dylan Shipp finished with a hat trick for the Wildcats, along with two assists, while Ryan Guarente added a pair of goals,
Wyatt Campenni also had three assists for Greenwood (10-0, Tri-Valley League 7-0), and Jack Myers added a goal and two assists.
East Juniata (0-8-1, 0-4-1) was outshot 22-2 and trailed 8-1 in corners. Tiger goalie Jonny Hoffman made 12 saves, while Drake Kersetter and Nathan Joya combined for two stops for Greenwood.
East Juniata hosts Susquenita on Tuesday.
Lara, Flores de Valgaz power JCS
MCALISTERVILLE -- Julian Flores de Valgaz scored five goals and Jordan Lara added three more as the Juniata Christian Lions took down Johnstown Christian 9-0 in Allegheny Christian Athletic Association action.
Lara netted the first three goals - all in the first half. His first two were unassisted, while Flores de Valgaz assisted on the third. Flores de Valgaz made it a 4-0 game at the half for the Lions (11-1, ACHA 7-1), with Charlie Donovan picking up the assist.
Flores found the net four times in the second half, while Zander Neiman added the other goal. Neimond and Donovan each assisted on one of Flores de Valgaz's goals.
Juniata Christian led 29-7 in shots and 7-4 in corner kicks, and Lions keeper Connor Leitzel made four saves.
The Lions travel to Sullivan County today.
GIRLS SOCCER
Hoover nets pair in JCS win
MCALISTERVILLE -- Rachel Hoover scored a goal in each half as Juniata Christian blanked Johnstown Christian 4-0 in Allegheny Christian Athletic Association action.
Nicole Lara set up Hoover and then Irene Peachey in the first half as the Lions (7-4-1, ACAA 4-4) grabbed a 2-0 lead.
Hoover scored an unassisted goal in the second half then set up Lara to set the final. Juniata Christian led 21-0 in shots and 8-0 in corners. Lions keeper Emma Martin did not make a save in earning the shutout.
Juniata Christian hosts Belleville Christian on Tuesday.
Mustangs earn two wins at NE Bradford tourney
ROME -- Midd-West swept a pair of games at the Northeast Bradford Tournament by beating Sullivan County 4-0 and host Northeast Bradford 2-1. Emery Peters and Macie Zechman each netted two goals for the Mustangs (8-0-1) on the day, while Ava Aitkins had three assists. Keeper Addie Maust combined for six saves.
VOLLEYBALL
EJ spikers swept by West Perry
COCOLAMUS -- Brooklyn Devinney had nine digs and Madyson Freed added seven digs but the East Juniata Tigers were swept by visiting West Perry, 3-0, in non-league action. The scores were 25-13, 25-13 and 25-10.
Devinney also had three service points and an assist for the Tigers (2-9), while Mya Crissman added four digs and two points. Kylee Burd also notched five digs, Mazie Neimond had four digs, one assist and two points and Hayley Cramer added three digs and six points.
East Juniata is home to face Halifax today.
