Car fire death ruled a suicide

McVEYTOWN — The victim from the Jan. 23 car fire, in Oliver Township, was identified Tuesday by Mifflin County Coroner Daniel P. Lynch, who told the Sentinel that he ruled the cause of death as a suicide.

Lisa Ann Casto, 58, of Hagerstown, Md., was positively identified through forensic testing, Lynch said. According to Mifflin County Communications Center staff, Casto drove onto the Route 22 Self-Storage property just after 2:30 p.m. the day of the incident. Jayme Spickler, owner of the property, said the vehicle soon “exploded,” causing damage to some of the storage units.

Fire Co., West Granville Fire Co., McVeytown Ambulance and the Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene.

In an online obituary published by The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., Casto is said to be survived by her husband, two daughters and six grandchildren, as well as extended family members that include sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. A memorial service was scheduled to take place Friday, Feb. 1, followed by an inurnment service at a Hagerstown cemetery.
