Richard L. ‘Pete’ Mateer
Richard L. “Pete” Mateer, 70, of Lewistown, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at his home.
Born June 20, 1955, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Lawrence E. “Pete” Mateer and A. Jane (Peterson) Mateer, and was lovingly raised by his Aunt Jean Peterson whom he cherished throughout his life.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Kay (Riden) Mateer; his children, Andrew Mateer and Ashley Severs and husband, Enio, all of Lewistown; and his cherished grandchildren, Faith Mateer, Tyler Mateer and wife, Kylie, and Elena Severs. He is also survived by his brother, Tim Mateer and wife, Denna, of Belleville; and his niece, Emily Hostetler and husband, John, of Belleville.
A 1973 graduate of Chief Logan High School, Pete was a proud member of Lewistown No. 203 Masonic Lodge. He retired from Ford New Holland in 2004.
Pete was a man who valued family, friendship, and community. His easygoing nature and steady presence made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. He enjoyed simple moments, good company, and the comfort of familiar places and faces.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pete’s memory to the Lumina Center.
