Selinsgrove man sentenced in stalking case

From staff reports

MIDDLEBURG — A Selinsgrove man convicted of stalking a neighbor was sentenced to 36 months of probation, including one year of house arrest with electronic monitoring, according to the Snyder County District Attorney’s Office.

President Judge Lori Hackenberg sentenced Gregory Shea, 44, on June 5 following his May 12 jury conviction on charges of stalking and loitering and prowling at night. Shea was also ordered to undergo a mental health assessment and comply with any recommended treatment.

Prosecutors said Shea repeatedly contacted a next-door neighbor after leaving a handwritten note on her vehicle. According to the district attorney’s office, Pennsylvania State Police warned Shea to leave the woman alone, but he continued to watch her with binoculars and followed her to a Selinsgrove grocery store. Investigators said Shea told law enforcement he believed the victim was sending him signals of romantic interest despite having little interaction with her.

Authorities said Shea’s actions also alarmed other residents in the neighborhood, several of whom testified during the trial.

Assistant District Attorney Eric Birth prosecuted the case, his first jury trial since joining the Snyder County District Attorney’s Office after previously serving as a prosecutor in Lycoming County.

District Attorney Heath Brosius credited the victim and her family for documenting the conduct that led to the conviction.

“The victim and her family provided as much evidence leading to the conviction as the State Police did in this case,” Brosius said. “They were aware, alert, and documented all of Mr. Shea’s behaviors, and that information was incredibly helpful.”

Court records show Shea was convicted by a jury and sentenced following those convictions.
