Belleville pummels Lewistown, 12-1

BELLEVILLE — Belleville scored early and often as it beat Lewistown, 12-1, Wednesday in the only game played in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
The win for Belleville (8-4) kept it in third place, two and a half games behind league-leading Beaver Springs (11-2). Reedsville is in second place at 10-3.
Belleville scored five runs in the first and added five more runs in the second. In the first, Belleville only had two hits, an RBI single from Mason Joyce and an RBI double from Isaiah Sharp, who hit it deep into the left field corner. Lewistown had four walks and two wild pitches that scored runs.
In the second inning, Belleville scored five more runs and didn’t get a hit. Lewistown gave up two walks and committed four errors and threw in another wild pitch that scored a run.
Belleville wrapped up its scoring with two runs in the third. Gage Geissinger had the RBI base hit. Lewistown again had another rough inning as it gave two walks, hit a batter, had four wild pitches and made another miscue’
Reagan Varner went the distance for Belleville. He struck out six, walked one and gave up five hits. After the first batter in the second inning, Varner retired eight men in a row and 12 of the last 13 men he faced to end the game.
Lewistown scored its only run in the first thanks to three straight hits from Jared Sickles, Wyatt Foltz and Talon Penepacker. Crue Kochendefer was the only multiple hitter in the game with two.
