Huskies shine at Classic

Cubbison second in 3,200 race

LOCK HAVEN — Hurdler Abi Riden set personal records in both hurdle races and Reese Cubbison finished second in the 3,200 with teammate Koy Aurand close behind as the Mifflin County Huskies enjoyed their share of shining moments at the Lock Haven University High School Track and Field Classic on Saturday.

Riden had a standout day with a time of 18.23 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 53.29 in the 300 hurdles. Cubbison ran a 9:30.19 in the 3,200, while Aurand placed sixth in 9:55.54.

For the Huskies, the 4×800 relay team of Aurand, Koy Aurand, Hoyt Rodenbaugh and Styers Oden were fifth in 8:34.63, while Hart Oden ran a personal best time of 6:45.24 in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, placing seventh.

Mifflin County’s boys finished 10th in the team standings with 20 points. State College cruised to the team title with 133 points, followed by Williamsport (90 points), Lewisburg (81.5), Altoona (71) and Hughesville (44) to round out the top five.

Rodenbaugh took 12th in the 3,200 in 10:00.55, while Reese Bell stood out in the javelin, placing sixth in 46.68 meters. In the 200, Gideon Garland ran 13th in 24.42, with Nevin Farley 17th in 24.64 and Cayden Breon 39th in 27.42.

In the 1,600, Aidan Scavitti ended up 14th in 4:46.97, and in the 400, Huskies Trevan Diven went 18th in 53.60, Camryn Treaster 37th in 56,12 and Zaiden Dashem 42nd in 57.63.

In the long jump, Nevin Farley was 22nd at 5.62 meters, while Brayden Stitt placed 19th in the 110 hurdles in 18.68 and 26th in the 300 hurdles in 48.67. In the 100, Garland was 36th in 12.05 and Farley 45th in 12.26. The Huskies’ 4×100 relay placed ninth in 46.25.

On the girls side, other finishers for Mifflin County included Adalyn Ross, ninth in the pole vault at 2.43 meters; Annie Hartzler, 25th in the long jump at 4.5 meters and 33rd in the high jump at 1.24 meters; and Maddy Clinard, 28th in the long jump at 4.38 meters.

In the triple jump, Clinard ended up 27th at 9.18 meters, Kendall Cavanaugh took 21st in the discus at 24.95 meters; and Madison Baumgardner ran a 20.22 in the 100 hurdles to finish 38th.

In the 100, Adalyn Ross took 28th in 14.05, Brynn Rowe was 38th in 14.19 and Isabella Christie 44th in 14.39, while Liberty Cook placed 19th in the 1,600 in 5:48.26 and Abigail Anderson 26th in 5:59.70.

The Husky girls 4×100 relay picked up a 12th in 54.68, and Clinard was 23rd in the 400 in 1:05.43. In the 300 hurdles, after Riden took 23rd in 53.29, Baumgardner placed 40th in 59.14.

In the 800, Cook ran a 2:38.30 for 25th and Anderson was 44th in 2:53.63, while, in the 200, Hartzler scored a 27th in 29.76 and Rowe was 37th in 30.49.

Mifflin County did not score any team points.

The Huskies travel to Central Dauphin East on Tuesday.

Mustangs 4×400 third at LHU

The Midd-West Mustang boys finished 14th in the team standings with 16 points, thanks to some standout performances.

The Midd-West 4×800 relay finished second with an 8.01.40, while 4×400 ended up third in 3:27.30 and Connor Stoltzfus finished seventh in the 400 in 51.02.

In the discus, Jasher Wolf placed 25th at 26.35 meters and 27th in the shotput at 10.59 meters. In the 100, Nathan Straub ran 27th in 11.89 and Landon Reid 40th in 12.16.

In the 1,600, Wyatt Nelson placed 10th in 4:42.31, with Grant Boop 20th in 4;50.02 and Lane Yount 45th in 5:16.06. In the 400, D’Angelo Drumheller placed 31st in 55.80, while, in the 800, Boop grabbed 26th with a 2:13.55 and Yount 40th in 2:21.50. Reid was 31st in the 200 in 25.68 and Drumheller 35th in 26.14.

On the girls side, the Mustangs finished 22nd in the team standings with two points. State College took the girls crown with 129 points, with Altoona (110.5), Lewisburg (67), Williamsport (65) and Hughesville (40) rounding out the top five.

Midd-West finished seventh in the 4×400 relay in 4:17.30, while Ashlyn Hoffman placed 12th in the 800 in 2:27.10, Leah Zimmerman 38th in 2:45.85 and Maya Zechman 40th in 2:50.43.

In the javelin, Jasmine Williams scored a top-10 finish with a ninth in 30.20 meters, with Leigha Wenger 14th at 27.42 meters.

Wenger took 20th in the shot at 8.89 meters, with Williams 31st at 8.29 meters. In the discus, Wenger ended up 20th in 25.06 meters and Williams 23rd in 24.58.

In the 100, Carly Faulhaber was 14th in 13.67, Emery Peters 31st in 14.12 and Maddie Bonsall 37th in 14.19, while Zimmerman was the Mustangs’ top finisher in the 400 in 28th in 1:06.73, Zechman was 41st in 1:09.58 and Audrey Resseguie 42nd in 1:09.71.

In the 300 hurdles, Emma Williams was 20th in 52,98 and the girls 4×100 was disqualified.

Midd-West is scheduled to compete at the Blue Jay Classic at Central Cambria on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Midd-West splits twinbill with Troy

TROY – The Mustangs improved to 5-5 overall after splitting a non-league doubleheader at Troy. Midd-West won the opener 3-1 but dropped the second game by a 15-0 score. It was called after three innings due to the 10-run rule.

In the opener, the Mustangs made the most of their two hits as Troy committed three errors in the field. Midd-West broke a 1-1 tie by scoring the decisive two runs after a two-run double by Emma Wagner in the top of the sixth inning.

The Mustangs led 1-0 early after scoring in the top of the first. Troy responded with its only run in the third. The Trojans managed only two hits and failed to capitalize on five Midd-West errors.

Wagner and Cali Sauer accounted for the Mustangs’ hits. Miley Beachel, Briahna Keister and Katie Zimmerman each scored runs.

Beachel went the distance, striking out eight and walking two.

Midd-West was no hit and committed 11 errors in the second game as Troy rolled to an easy victory. Troy scored early and often as the Trojans posted a five-spot in the first inning, seven in the second and three more in the third.

Troy manufactured its 15 runs on only nine hits. Amber James had three of the Trojans’ hits, scored three times and drove in a pair, while Lauren Reed and Marlee Stanton each added a pair of hits.

Kylie Mitch suffered the loss for the Mustangs, as only one of the 15 runs was earned, and she walked two.

Midd-West visits Milton on Tuesday.
