Reedsville moves into second place

MILROY — Reedsville moved into second place in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League with a 16-6 win over Lewistown on Wednesday. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Reedsville (8-3) has now won its last three games in a row and is just a half game behind league-leading Beaver Springs (8-2).

It didn’t take long for Reedsville to take control of the game on Wednesday as it scored nine runs in the first inning to take a 9-1 lead.

Reedsville batted 13 men in the first inning as it scored nine times on five hits. The big hits came from Cam Kauffman, an RBI triple and a two-run single from Noah Bunch. Lewistown aided the Reedsville cause with two walks and four errors.

Leading 11-6 going into the bottom of the fifth, Reedsville scored five runs without making an out. Three walks in a row to Dalton Yoder, Carter Palm and Bunch loaded the bases. Then Caden McClure and Kauffman had RBI singles and Jude Zook finished off Lewistown with a three-run double to end the game.

Kauffman got the win on the mound in relief. He went three innings, gave up one run, one hit, struck out three and walked five.

Reedsville had 11 hits with Kauffman, Jamieson Parkes and McClure getting two each. Bronn Zook had a double in the first inning.

Lewistown had four hits, Chris Ritter, Landon Cuningham, Gabre Wilson and Luke Bloom. Both Bloom and Wilson’s hits were doubles.

BELLTOWN 13, BELLEVILLE 8

BELLTOWN — Belltown won its third game in a row as it beat Belleville, 13-8.

Ben Link started the game for Belltown and went three innings. He gave up six hits, two walks and seven runs. Tanner Shawver, a rookie, finished the game giving up four hits, no walks and striking out three.

After three innings, Belltown led 11-7 and then Shawver held Belleville to just one run over the last four innings.

Cater Sunderland had three hits for the Big Valley club. Eli Hendeson had two hits and Isaac Sharp had a double.

Belltown had three players with two hits and they each had a double, Tanner and Luke Shawver and Kale Beaver.

MILROY 8, MCVEYTOWN 5

MCVEYTOWN — Milroy got big pitching efforts from Justice Ritchey and Chase Krepps in stopping McVeytown, 8-5.

Ritchey went five innings and got the win. He gave up three hits, walked two and struck out one. Krepps got the save working the last two innings. He struck out five, walked no one and gave up one hit.

Milroy had seven hits with Kopper Walters getting three. Andrew Toddes had a two-run triple in the second as Milroy took a 4-0 lead.

McVeytown finished with four hits. Jett Powell had a three-run homer in the third inning. The other McVeytown hits came from Easton Stonerook, Grant Peachey and Lucas Casner.

In the fifth inning, Powell hit a ball deep into the outfield, but was robbed of an extra base hit by Walters as he made a running, spectacular catch to save extra bases.

BEAVER SPRINGS 23, STRODES MILLS 7

LEWISTOWN — Beaver Springs won its eighth game of the season, beating Strodes Mills, 23-7. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Springs pounded out 28 hits. Beaver Springs had seven players with three hits, Max Trawitz, Landon Keister, Haven Bridge, Colton Aumiller, Maverick Smith, Vance Gregg and Ean Walter. Two players added two hits each, Brayden Herbster and Dale Davidson.

Aumiller had a double and a triple, while Bridge, Smith and Davidson each had a double.

Strodes Mills only had one hit, a double from Jackson Briar.
