Upsets prevail in Babe Ruth League

It was Upset City in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League on Tuesday. The top three teams all went down. Reedsville beat Beaver Springs, 9-7; McVeyrtown edged Lewistown, 6-4 and Belltown stunned Burnham, 10-8.
REEDSVILLE 9, BEAVER SPRINGS 7
BEAVER SPRINGS–Reedsville held off a late charge by Beaver Springs to win a 9-7 battle over the first-place team.
The key player for Reedsville in the upset was Caden McClure. McClure got the win as he worked four and a third innings. He allowed three runs, all in the seventh, before he gave way to Noah Bunch. Jude Zook started the game for Reedsville.
McClure walked four, gave up four hits and struck out four. At one point in the game he retired seven men in a row in the middle innings.
Reedsville took control of the game in the third as it scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Cam Kauffman, Anderson Bitner, Karter Kangy and Zook all had RBI singles in the third. The inning opened with a double from Jamieson Parkes, who had a big day with three hits. Kanagy also had three hits and Kauffman and Zook each had two.
Beaver Springs made a big comeback in the seventh as it scored five runs. River Knepp and Landon Keister had two-run singles and Colton Aumiller had a bases-loaded walk. Keister had one-third of the Springs hits with three.
Springs’ five-game winning streak came to an end.
MCVEYTOWN 6, LEWISTOWN 4
MCVEYTOWN–Sparked by Landon Pecht’s three-run homer in the fifth inning McVeytown beat Lewistown, 6-4.
The game was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth and then Pecht went downtown and McVeytown added another run to take a 6-2 lead.
McVeytown used four different pitchers with Easton Stonerook getting the win.
The winners had six hits as Stonerook and Jett Powell each had two.
Lewistown’s Chris Ritter had two hits including a triple. Lewistown finished with seven hits.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Lewistown.
For Lewistown manager Josh Snook, it was his 100th game (35-65) that he has managed including All-Star games. He becomes the 27th Mifflin County manager to accomplish that feat and only the second from Lewistown.
BELLTOWN 10, BURNHAM 8
BURNHAM – Belltown scored eight runs in the first inning and Burnham could never recover as it fell, 10-8.
Belltown had seven hits in the first inning as it scored eight times and never looked back. RJ Link started for Belltown and got the win. He went four innings, gave up six hits, walked two and struck out one. Luke Shawver picked up the save and struck out six in three innings of work.
Belltown had 10 hits as Shawver, Link and Kale Beaver each had two.
Burnham had six hits with Chase Benfer and Cohen Leister each getting two Benfer and Leister each had doubles and Leister smashed a two-run homer in the first inning.
MILROY 29, STRODES MILLS 3
LEWISTOWN – Milroy snapped a six-game losing streak with a 29-3 win over Strodes Mills. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Milroy pounded out 18 hits in the lopsided victory. Kooper Walters led the way with four hits including an inside-the-park home run. Andrew Toddes, Chase Krepps, Cohen Ritchey, Brooks Druckenmiller and Nate Casner each had two hits for the winners.
Druckenmiller was the winning pitcher. Strodes Mills had four singles from Evan Hook, Cade Litzinger, Jackson Briar and Chase Johnson.
