McVeytown extends win streak to 11 games

BEAVER SPRINGS — Something had to give Friday night in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.

McVeytown came in with a 10-game winning streak and Beaver Springs had an eight-game winning streak.

McVeytown won the game 6-5 in eight innings. The game was tied 5-5 after seven innings. In the seventh, McVeytown had the bases loaded with no outs and failed to score. Beaver Springs put two men on the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t push across a run.

Then in the eighth inning, Logan Bickert walked and Shane Moist followed with a base hit. Gatlin Kauffman then delivered a two-out double, scoring Bickert.

Beaver Springs now has an 8-1 record, while McVeytown is 11-2.

Kauffman had three hits for McVeytown, while Benny had two. McVeytown finished with 10 hits. Beaver Springs was held to four hits by Elliott Yetter and Carson Cherry. Cherry got the win in relief.

McVeytown took an early lead with five runs in the first two innings. In the first inning, McVeytown had four straight hits that produced three runs. Carson Cherry and Gatlin Kauffman had back-to-back singles. Bo Benny then ripped a double that produced a run and Jett Powell followed with a two-run double.

McVeytown added two more runs in the second on an RBI groundout from Cherry and a Beaver Springs error.

Beaver Springs chipped away with two runs in the second and two more in the third. Landon Hartman had a two-run double in the second. Braxton Smith doubled in the third and came home on a ground ball from Noah Wert. The other Springs’ run scored on an error.

Westin Kuhns tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single.

STRODES MILLS 12, REEDSVILLE 6

LEWISTOWN — Strodes Mills scored six runs over the last three innings to beat Reedsville, 12-6.

The first half of the game was played on Wednesday with Strodes MIlls winning, 6-5, when a rainstorm hit the area. The second half of the game was played on Friday.

Joel Beamer was the winning pitcher as he went the first four innings. He struck out three, walked four and gave up four hits. Chase Moore closed the game for Strodes. He had six strikeouts in the last three innings.

Strodes Mills had seven hits. Michael McNitt had two and Moore had a double.

Reedsville had five hits with Zander Lawson getting two. Camden Kauffman, Wyatt Parkes and Caden McClure each had one for Reedsville.

BURNHAM 11, MILROY 6

MILROY — Burnham kept pace with the two top teams in the league as it beat Milroy, 11-6. Burnham is now 9-2.

Burnham jumped off to a 6-0 start keyed by a solo home run from Landon Haigh. Burnham finished with 14 hits with Lincoln Ruble and Chase Benfer, a rookie, each getting two.

Haigh was the winning pitcher as he went four innings and Ruble came in to finish the game.

Milroy only had five singles from Karl Shirey, Chase Krepps, Thad Gerwick, Tyler Williams and Brenden Hoffman.

Milroy’s record is now 8-4. Friday, marked the first time that the top four teams battled each other in the league.
