PSP, PennDOT announce Memorial Day DUI enforcement efforts
LEWISTOWN — Pennsylvania State Police and PennDOT are increasing impaired driving enforcement efforts in Mifflin and Juniata counties ahead of the Memorial Day holiday.
Throughout May and continuing through Memorial Day weekend, troopers in the Lewistown area and across Mifflin and Juniata counties will conduct DUI checkpoints and roving patrols targeting impaired driving.
Police said enforcement efforts will also focus on distracted driving, seat belt violations and aggressive driving behaviors, including speeding, tailgating, running red lights and passing in no-passing zones.
Troopers said checkpoint stops are intended to be brief and routine. Drivers are asked to have their license and registration ready and follow directions from officers.
According to PSP, during the 2025 Memorial Day travel period from May 23-26, there were 108 alcohol-related crashes statewide, resulting in four fatalities and 85 injuries. Police also reported 42 drug-related crashes during the same period, resulting in one fatality and 34 injuries.
