Newton Wayne Fire Company seeks support for new tanker truck
From staff reports
NEWTON HAMILTON — The Newton Wayne Fire Company announced it is in the process of replacing its 2000 E-One tanker truck, citing rising maintenance costs and national recommendations regarding the lifespan of fire apparatus.
According to the department, the new apparatus was ordered in late 2025 and is expected to take approximately four years to complete. By the time the replacement enters service, the current tanker will be about 29 years old.
Fire officials noted the National Fire Protection Association recommends removing frontline fire apparatus from primary service after 15 years and fully retiring them after 25 years.
The department said it has set aside funding for the project and continues to hold fundraisers, including turkey suppers, a gun bash, cash party, golf tournament and online raffles, to help offset costs. Officials also said donations are currently being matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000 through a donor contribution program.
In addition to fundraising efforts, the fire company said it has secured grant funding for equipment and facility improvements, including new siding and a concrete pad installed at the firehouse in 2025.
The department thanked residents and businesses in Newton Hamilton Borough, Kistler Borough and Wayne Township for their continued support and encouraged community members to consider making tax-deductible donations to assist with future equipment needs.
