REEDSVILLE — More than 400 local fourth graders gathered at the Mifflin County Youth Park on Monday for the annual Free Wheeling Day, a hands-on career exploration event sponsored by the Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce Business and Education Committee.
The event is designed to introduce students to a variety of career opportunities available throughout the local community by allowing them to interact directly with professionals and explore the vehicles, tools and equipment used in different industries and professions.
Students had the opportunity to learn from representatives of several local businesses and organizations, including the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Kickin’ Kater, FAME Emergency Medical Services, Mifflin County Regional Police Department, Stroup’s Garage, Metzler Forest Products, Philips Ultrasound, Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and JAS Farm.
Organizers said the annual event aims to encourage career awareness and strengthen students’ connections to the community through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
