LEWISTOWN — As the end of the school year starts to count down and the highlights of school sports season starts to fade into the sunset, one of the constants at that time is the Mifflin County Husky Clubs’ 15th Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony.

Like every year, the club honors its numerous teams and the athletes who wear the Husky uniforms.

This year the list of legendary athletes and events headlined the show.

It was also an end of an era for longtime Athletic Director Tish Maclay as she is retiring at the end of this upcoming school year. She has held the Athletic Director position for 11 years.

She did it in a quiet fashion and always put the athletes well being at the very top of the list.

Opening the night officially were Mifflin County Athletic Director Tish Maclay and Assistant Athletic Director Bob Lepley.

“To the many parents, grandparents, guardians, families, friends, and community members, thank you for your commitment to our student athletes,” said Maclay. “You provide transportation, you attend events, and you cheer on the Huskies in a positive manner and that makes all the difference.

“It creates not just an environment, but it adds to the community. And that community is Mifflin County, that we should all be very proud. I’ve said it time and time again, year after year, season after season.”

Highlighting the night were the sports’ individual school and media awards.

Winning in the honorary sports awards were a long distinguished list of the who’s who in the local sports scene.

First presented was the Tish Maclay Field Hockey Award which was won by Addie Fultz. Rounding out second and third were Jayda Kanagy and Bailey Neff.

In spring action, the Jaynee Carolus Softball Award was won by Ava Baker followed by Carly Dickson and teammate Piper Specht.

The Riden/Hockenbrock Baseball Award went to three Mid-Penn Champions Evan Strohecker, Chase Hartung and Karl Shirey. Taking home top honors was Strohecker.

In fall competition, the Ron Sprecher Cross County Award was awarded to the top three girls and boys.

Taking the top spot for the girls was Amilia Coffey. She was followed by Ava Kratzer and Liberty Cook.

On the boys’ side, Carter Smith led the way followed closely by teammates Reese Cubbison and Hoyt Rodenbaugh.

The Seven Mountains Awards continued the recognition starting with the Alex Ufema Football Award. This year it was Chase Hartung taking the top nod which was followed by Gavin Herrington and Brandon Kauffman.

In the winter, the Jenna Feathers Girls Basketball Award given to the best girls basketball player in Mifflin County went to Mackenzie Peachey.

Jayda Kanagy and Payton Weaver rounded things out.

Staying with the round ball honors theRothrock/Webber Boys Basketball Award was awarded to Jack Curry. Zach Keller and Luke Bender finished second and third, respectively.

On the mat, the Rod Tate Wrestling Award gave this year’s honor to Andrew Alexander. He was followed by Jake Kanagy and Brayan Aurand.

During the ceremony each team provided their own awards as well.

Maclay also gave credit to all the support, dedication and actives the coaches do to help mold future athletes.

“They (the coaches) do it for the love of the game, for the love of the sport. For the love of having the chance to interact with the student athletes,” said Maclay. “And again, just create a great experience and to try to create teams that people want to be a part of and can be proud of.”
