Commissioners urge public forum on proposed Granville data center

Officials call for transparency, community input on potential project

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County commissioners are urging local officials and a developer to hold a public forum regarding a proposed data center project in Granville Township.

The Mifflin County Board of Commissioners said a joint public meeting involving township officials and the company would provide residents with information about the project and an opportunity to ask questions.

Commissioners said projects of this scale can generate both interest and concern, and emphasized the need for clear communication early in the process.

“Projects like this naturally generate interest and, at times, concern,” Commissioner Rob Postal said. “Providing a setting where accurate information can be shared directly — and where residents can engage in a respectful, fact-based discussion — is an important step in building understanding and trust.”

Officials said a public forum would allow the developer to outline potential impacts, benefits and project timelines, while also giving residents a chance to share feedback.

Commissioner Kevin Kodish noted that any proposed data center would be subject to local zoning regulations and state land-use laws as part of the review and approval process.

Commissioners also said the forum should be structured to ensure a balanced exchange, with local officials facilitating the discussion and the developer available to address technical questions.

“We believe it is in the best interest of everyone involved — the township, the developer and most importantly the residents of Granville Township — to come together in an open and transparent setting,” Kodish said.

Commissioner Noah Wise said the board remains committed to supporting municipalities in encouraging public engagement and communication as economic development projects move forward.
