Beam work to halt traffic at I-80/I-99 interchange Tuesday

Short delays expected near Jacksonville Road as major project continues

CLEARFIELD — Motorists traveling near the Interstate 80 and Interstate 99 interchange can expect brief delays Tuesday as crews set bridge beams as part of a long-term construction project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said its contractor will place beams on the I-80 eastbound bridge spanning Jacksonville Road on May 19.

To accommodate the work, traffic will be stopped at the junction of I-99 and Jacksonville Road between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Officials said delays will not exceed 15 minutes at a time.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use caution in the work zone and consider alternate routes if possible.

In the coming weeks, motorists may also encounter intermittent flagging operations while crews install bridge components and deck materials. All work is weather dependent.

The beam placement is part of the larger High-Speed Interchange project designed to provide a direct connection between I-80 and I-99, eliminating the need for drivers to use Route 26 and helping reduce congestion.

The overall project includes construction of the interchange, 10 bridges, retaining walls, culverts and roadway improvements, along with drainage upgrades, lighting and traffic management systems. Work is expected to continue through 2030.

The project is being completed by Trumbull Corp. of Pittsburgh at a cost of approximately $259 million, with about $170 million funded through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The interchange project is one of three phases. A previous phase, completed between 2020 and 2022, created a local access interchange at mile marker 163. Another ongoing phase includes widening and reconstructing Route 26, with completion expected this summer.

Motorists can check current road conditions through the state’s 511PA system.

Starting at $2.99/week.
