Mifflin County project among $3 million in safety upgrades

Ward announces funding for pedestrian, bike improvements in Mifflin, Blair counties

LEWISTOWN — A Mifflin County roadway project aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle safety has been awarded nearly $1.5 million as part of a broader regional funding package announced by Judy Ward.

The funding will support safety and connectivity improvements along Electric Avenue and South Logan Boulevard, where 6-foot-wide bike lanes and 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalks will be constructed from Ort Valley Road to Derry Park Drive. The project also includes ADA-compliant ramps at business entrances and intersections.

The improvements are designed to create a safer, more connected route for pedestrians and cyclists, including students who walk or bike to school.

In total, nearly $3 million was awarded for projects in Mifflin and Blair counties.

“These projects will improve safety for our pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists throughout Blair and Mifflin counties,” Ward said. “We are always looking to improve our commonwealth’s infrastructure, and these projects showcase the work that can be done to make Pennsylvania roadways safe for everyone who uses them.”

A second project in Blair County received $1,490,230 for pedestrian infrastructure improvements along several blocks of Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg. Planned upgrades include new sidewalks, curbs, ADA ramps and traffic-calming features such as crosswalks.

The projects are funded through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program for the 2025-26 fiscal year, part of a statewide effort to improve pedestrian, bicycle and transit-access infrastructure.

Starting at $2.99/week.
