Activities on tap to usher out the old, ring in the new year

With the holidays wrapping up for 2024, this is a super-sized version of things to do, which includes New Year’s Eve. While the Juniata River Valley might be a bit far from seeing the ball drop in New York City, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of activities on tap to ring in 2025. Check these five things out:
Shining Light Through the
Darkness
Daily from 5 to 10 p.m. through Friday, Jan. 3, at Kishacoquillas Park, 1 Derry Park Drive, Lewistown, the annual holiday tradition, Shining Light Through the Darkness, is a non-profit, mission outreach, all volunteer organization with the goal of spreading the Light of Jesus Christ and the meaning of the Christmas season through various displays of lights and other decorations. The lights turn on most nights, starting at 5 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Walk through the beautiful Christmas light display, model train displays, music with Jesse Crosson and Friends performing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Michael G at 7 p.m. Saturday and Unusual Suspects at 7 p.m. Sunday and more. Youth basketball sign ups in Beaver Springs
The Middlecreek Area Community YMCA, 67 Elm St., Beaver Springs, will hold youth basketball games this winter for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The league will play from Jan. 2 through March 1, with sign ups through Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $25 for YMCA members and $35 for non-members. Games are scheduled for Saturday. New Year’s Eve
Kids Bash
Krise Transportation of Mifflin County, 35 School Bus Lane, Lewistown, will hold a New Year’s Eve Kids Bash on Tuesday, from noon to 7 p.m. Activities include: family-friendly carnival rides and indoor games, free sweet treat, food vendors on-site and much more. Don’t miss the countdown to 7 p.m. with the School Bus Drop. Admission is free. But donations will be accepted.

Memories in
Mifflintown
Mifflintown presents the Seventh Annual Bridge the Memories New Year’s Eve Event and Midnight Bridge Drop on Tuesday, from 10 p.m. to midnight. Enjoy hot dogs and soup, the snowmen at your leisure, goodie bags for the kids and DJ Jimi Jams. The replica bridge drops at midnight.
