Mifflintown home for sale includes airport runway

MIFFLINTOWN — A three bedroom, three bathroom home for the sale on the real estate market might not sound too unusual.

Perhaps, knowing the home was 12,973 square feet and built on a 22.2-acre lot might raise a few eyebrows or turn a few heads. The $3.75 million price tag would definitely do the trick, along with runaway and several airplane hangars. That’s right the Mifflintown Airport, located at 600 Airport Drive, Mifflintown, is on the sale block. It was listed with Lusk and Associates Sotheby’s International Realty as of Aug. 1.

“It’s a neat little asset tucked in Central Pa,” said Anne Lusk, REALTOR® and owner of the Lancaster agency which specializes in luxurious and unique properties. She listed another airport in Weatherly, just south of Wilkes-Barre. “I’ve gotten calls all over the country about it – from Texas, California, Florida, Alabama, New York and Pennsylvania.”

Selling this type of property is more than just location, location, location as the real estate slogan preaches.

“You are cleared for landing! Welcome to 600 Airport Drive in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania,” the listing reads on Realtor.com.

The property is described as being “surrounded by a peaceful setting of scenic mountains, serene farmland and lush green trees. It is conveniently situated in between Harrisburg and State College/Penn State University.”

Now that you have that panoramic view in mind, besides the custom home, there’s a 2,650-foot paved, lighted runway, more than 23,000 square feet of hangars, 6,000 gallons of fuel storage, two residential rental properties, an apartment and a second residential home.

“It’s really sort of cool,” Lusk explained. “You have people who are interested in the airport, the flying club meets there, and the owner lives there and there’s a rental property.”

The local radio-controlled airplane club uses the airport, which offers more than 23,000-square-foot of hangar space in 13 different units. In addition to the 6,000 gallons of fuel storage, the airport has two residential rental properties, an apartment, a house and 3.5 acres of undeveloped land.

The owner’s home, separately deeded, was completed in 2008, with a 1,632-square-foot heated garage and 1,504-square-foot screened-in porch.

A few of the amenities include a 15- by 50-foot swimming pool that is enclosed for year-round use. Hardwood floors can be found throughout the house, along with many windows and glass doors which offer spectacular views of the surroundings.

A new vineyard was planted in 2019, and the home is covered by an alarm system, video surveillance system, separate RO water system and two air conditioning systems. There’s also room to build a hangar and housekeeper apartment on the house lot as well. There are many more amenities to read about on the actual listing.

“You really have to market this globally,” Lusk said. “We’ve put it on aviation websites and air shows.

“We’re seeking out the one-tenth of one percent that can afford to buy it,” she added. “They also have to have an interest and be able to afford to maintain it.”
