Jesus was born to die to save all of us To the editor: Why did Jesus have to be born to die? Because God knew before he created anything what man would do and he had a plan to redeem himself a people (Matthew 25:34; 1 Peter 1:20; Revelation 13:8). Because of man’s sins there had to be atonement made to appease the wrath of God. Those redeemed had to be made holy. The sacrificial system of the Old Testament and the laws put in place to redeem one from bondage give insight to why Jesus had come. The sacrifice made for sin had to be without blemish or spot (Leviticus 1:10). ...

In appreciation

Support of Memorial Day service is appreciated To the editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who came to the Memorial Day Service and Program beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse at Monument Square in Lewistown. This program was conceived and put together to honor those who died in service to our country and to keep that honor and respect alive. You did that. Thank you. The program would not have happened without: Howard Reitenbaugh, Bugles Across America; Richard Erhard, Logan Guards Drum and Bugle Corps; Katherine Nace, Wreaths Across America; ...

Shootings are caused by evil people, not guns To the editor: The recent barbarian killings of the 21 individuals in Uvalde, Texas by a lone, crazed teenager is unexplainable. What human being who is of a sound, moral mind would ever conceive the thought of performing such a horrendous act? A gun can’t do this act unless the person initiates the pulling of the trigger. If a person has ideas and thoughts of creating so much bloodshed and sorrow, it is impossible to say that he possesses a sound, moral mind. Even though the killing of innocent children and adults occurs, the ...

Why not see if restricting guns will stop shootings? To the editor: If the only thing standing in the way of commonsense gun laws is the Second Amendment, then perhaps it is time to give that Second Amendment a second look. There were no assault weapons when our Founding Fathers decided to include this in our constitution. We’ve got our militia. It’s called the U.S. military. No civilian needs an assault weapon. And if it saves even one 9-year-old, then a ban is worth it. Some believe the Second Amendment precludes lawmakers from enacting restrictions on anything gun related. ...

Liberals’ border policies are ruining America

To the editor: I know I have written letters before about the southern border and the current way it is being secured, but I have to write more about the situation that exists. It has just been reported on the news that a juvenile was caught with fentanyl strapped around his waist. He was and American citizen. I don’t care what his age is, he should be prosecuted as an adult and put away for a long time. Also a woman with fentanyl pills inside one of her body cavities was caught by the dogs. She, too, should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and given the stiffest ...

Despite what the NRA says, guns do kill people To the editor: The big difference between being killed by a motor vehicle and being killed by a gun is that most motor vehicle deaths are accidental when someone is killed by a gun it is deliberate murder. I am not advocating to get rid of all guns. I am hopeful that we could get rid of all assault weapons. These weapons are meant only to kill people. Mental illness is obviously a reason for gun violence. No law that can be passed will not be able to identify all the mentally ill people in this country. This being a fact, we must ...
