Shootings are caused by evil people, not guns
To the editor:
The recent barbarian killings of the 21 individuals in Uvalde, Texas by a lone, crazed teenager is unexplainable. What human being who is of a sound, moral mind would ever conceive the thought of performing such a horrendous act?
A gun can't do this act unless the person initiates the pulling of the trigger. If a person has ideas and thoughts of creating so much bloodshed and sorrow, it is impossible to say that he possesses a sound, moral mind.
Even though the killing of innocent children and adults occurs, the guns are not the problem. The thoughts of performing such horrendous acts are the result of sick, mentally unstable individuals who are evil and do not respect human life.
Statistics provided by Wikipedia show that since 1949 when the first mass shooting, (10 people or more), occurred in the United States until 2022 that a total of 555 people have died in these horrendous acts. If another 200 deaths are included to this total to add deaths of less than 10 people incidents that would account for 755 total deaths in 73 years. That averages out to 10 people dying each year as result of mass shooting.
Abortions were legalized in 1973 and an estimated 63 million babies have been murdered. That averages out to 1,285,714 babies being murdered each year from 1973 until present day.
As result of the recent mass shootings, liberals are calling for stricter gun laws and the raising of the eligible age to purchase a gun from 18 to 21. Will the three-year delaying of a purchase of a gun solve the evil thoughts of an unstable individual who wants to do harm to others? Also, if one wants to get a gun nowadays, he can get it. Look at Chicago and Washington D.C., they have the strictness gun laws in the nation. These two cities have some of the highest crime and murder rates in the nation. Have their strict laws solved the problems?
Almost half the United States' population own guns and are responsible, law-abiding citizens. These horrendous acts are committed by mentally unstable people. Instead of rooting out these unstable people before an incident, the powers to be want to punish all these responsible, law-abiding citizens. There are literally more guns than people in the United States (331 million people, 393 million guns). Because of the horrendous acts of a few mentally unstable barbarians, we put the blame on the gun.
Why aren't our school students' environments hardened and protected like the men and women who disgrace the halls of our government buildings in Washington D.C.?
The liberals are putting a "guilt trip" on the guns and the gun owners. Their goal is to try to make current guns incapable of functioning and eventually confiscation of guns. In recent years, their attack on guns has resulted in the minimizing of gun owners' ability to purchase ammo.
Since the liberals are putting the "guilt trip" on the gun owners, I would like to reflect back to the abortion statistics. If the gun owners are somewhat responsible for the mass shooting incident, then why are all the Democratic Party supporters who have voted to support abortion for the past 49 years not responsible for the yearly deaths of 1,285,714 babies?
All these deaths are needless, unforgivable deaths. The recent elementary school children deaths are especially horrendous and sad but let us put things in perspective. A yearly average of 1,285,714 potential elementary students were never given the opportunity to take a breath, let alone attend a school.
Should we outlaw the abortionists' tools?
